Tool Enhancements Discussed at the 2013 Retreat

We had a set of enhancement thoughts at the 2013 retreat and did a survey to see which ones were of priority. Saved here for posterity.

  1. The IESG would like a way for ADs to see what the WG chairs see in the datatracker.

Status: Couldn't find an existing ticket for this.

  1. When the IESG sends a draft back to a WG the IESG state machine should go back to I-D Exists and the WG state should be revised ID needed and moved out of publication request. Essentially linking the AD-tools and WG chair-tools.

Status: Couldn't find a ticket for this.

  1. The IESG wants to be able to clear the responsible AD for a document that's marked Dead or that's sent to a different stream (ISE, usually).

Status: Pete submitted this ticket: http://trac.tools.ietf.org/tools/ietfdb/ticket/993 We should modify it to say that it's for the IESG and let Robert.

  1. IPR needs to follow replaced-by drafts.

Status: We have this ticket about IPR: http://trac.tools.ietf.org/tools/ietfdb/ticket/477 I think we just need to bump the priority on this.

  1. It would be helpful if it were possible for an AD reviewing a document to enter comments on an individual basis, into an existing issue tracker or else into a tweaked version of the current discuss/comment UI. The reviewing AD could then look at the list of issues in the tracker and check a box next to each one indicating "discuss" or "comment". The reviewer could then click a button saying "issue position" and this information would be used as their position on the document.

The sponsoring AD and commenting ADs could then easily check to see if a new document addressed each point in the tracker, and check off the ones that had been satisfied one by one. This would make the process of bring a document back in for IESG review after an update a lot easier.

  1. The DISCUSS/Comment history were easily browsable, and I think this would help with that—when reviewing ADs' positions on documents, one could simply see the ones that hadn't been addressed yet, but the issue tracker could keep the entire history.

(Barry, the point here is that right now once a DISCUSS has been removed, the history of the DISCUSS is hard to find—you have to go through the document history, and that's fairly painful. The idea with this enhancement is to keep all the issues from the DISCUSS/comment issue tracker feature in (9), but just mark the ones that are resolved as resolved. This allows someone interested in the history to go back and look at all the issues without having to spelunk through the document history. --Ted)

15: Draft diffs need to do a better job.

(Note: Diff needs to do a better job for charters too, so probably shouldn't limit this one. - pr)
